Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the day-to-day running & provision of high-quality service delivery
  • To promote a positive culture of professional supervision within the Centre and across all programs including Community Justice, Yinya Mulana, Youth Justice, Koori Kids Engagement Worker, LMARG Youth Projects
  • Liaise with the Youth & Residential Services Manager in regards to staff and program delivery
  • Assist with recruitment and orientation as required
  • To supervise staff effectively and efficiently, through the provision of clear work plans, and staff meetings
  • To ensure programs are delivered within budget by working collaboratively with staff and the Youth, Justice & Residential Services Manager
  • Develop and implement new programs as required
  • Build and maintain partnerships within Njernda and external stakeholders
  • Encourage and support children, young people and families to participate in programs and community events, sport & recreation, cultural events and health promotion
  • Participate in regular supervision and professional development, including further education and training where required
  • Collect required program data and complete relevant program reporting
  • Manage new referrals
  • Ensure intake, assessment, and care plans are developed and reviewed
  • Develop annual workplan of events and programs inline with Njernda’s strategic plan
  • Support the development and review of policies and procedures
  • Other duties as directed

Key selection criteria

  • An understanding of Aboriginal culture and a commitment to the values of the Njernda Aboriginal Corporation
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of aboriginal culture, social and economic issues, and local family networks.
  • An understanding of how to create a safe space to engage children, young people and families
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of family violence and trauma
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, multifunctional, energetic and dynamic environment
  • Ability to provide written reports and statistical data reporting
  • Knowledge of local aboriginal and mainstream services
  • Possess a strong commitment to staff development and training
  • Demonstrated capacity to provide strong leadership
  • Ability to advocate, mediate and undertake dispute resolution
  • An understanding of Youth Justice and the Child Protection system

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualifications or experience in Youth work or Community Services
  • Experience in Leading and developing a team
  • Experience in program development
  • Experience working with young people

 

Police check/Working with Children check/Drivers check:

All Njernda Corporation staff must pass a police and criminal records check, Working With Children Check & Drivers Licence check prior to starting employment – which may be reviewed during the period of employment.
