Family Services Integrated Worker

  • Hours:Full time 37.5 hours per week
  • Award:SCHADS award level 3.1 commensurate with qualifications and/or experience.
  • Position Scope:

    The Family Services integrated Worker works with families of children 0-18years, to strengthen parenting ability and confidence and to promote self-determination by building on each family’s natural strengths. The Program aims to enhance family, child and adolescent health and well-being and prevent child abuse and neglect. The program supports families through major transition and times of crisis by providing responsive and culturally sensitive services. Staff of the Family Services Unit will work together to develop a range of programs and services for families.

Role Purpose

Initiate contact with the referred family to:
 Assess appropriateness of referral.
 Promote the role of the program.
 Offer an integrated service to the family.

To work with all families presenting at the Family Services Unit to:

• Undertake an assessment with the family to identify the issues impacting on their family functioning.
• Assist the family to develop goals and map life skills.
• Develop a plan in conjunction with the family, which links the family with appropriate services.
• Liaise with the service network to support and implement the plan.
• Provide case management to the family including:
 Entry.
 Assessment.
 Planning.
 Direct service.
 Case coordination.
 Monitoring.
 Evaluation.
 Case closure.
• Work in the home with families using educative and modelling techniques.
• Organize individual and group counselling sessions.
• Utilize a strength-based, integrated approach in working with Aboriginal families.
• Assist the family to understand family dynamics, family history, life stages and child and adolescent development.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Respond to the needs of community members, providing support to individuals and families as required including:
 Information and Referral to other services.
 Financial assistance.
 Advocacy.
 Transport.
• Understand and promote the philosophy and need for an Aboriginal health/family service.
• Work as a team member in conjunction with Family Services, Health, and administrative staff.
• Support other team members in their work.
• Work cooperatively to develop local community events e.g., family days, NAIDOC week, men’s, and women’s health days etc.
• Attend and participate in Family Services Unit staff meetings, general staff meetings and health planning team meetings.
• Represent the organization and/or community in forums outside the agency (e.g., at court, on panels, on Committees etc.).
• Participate in ongoing training and development.
• Always ensure the confidentiality of client information.
• Maintain appropriate data and program and client records.
• In consultation with the programs and services manager, monitor and evaluate program delivery.
• Other duties as directed.
• Act, always, in a professional manner in accordance with the policies and practices of the Corporation.

 

Key Selection Criteria

Applicants must possess:
• A proven knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal people and Aboriginal culture.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of issues relating to the needs of Aboriginal families in the area.
• Knowledge of what constitutes child abuse and neglect.
• Good knowledge of the Childrens, Youth and families Act 2005 and Child Safety principles.
• Understanding of family functioning and social issues affecting families such as: parent-child relationships, parenting skills and household management.
• Understanding of casework and case management practices.
• Ability to organize and facilitate group supports sessions.
• Understanding and commitment to Aboriginal community controlled medical/family services.
• An ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal people and handle issues in a sensitive manner.
• Sound negotiation skills.
• An ability to advocate on behalf of individuals and families.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to maintain records and manage time effectively and efficiently.
• Ability to plan, implement case plans into community services programs such CSNET system.
• Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively as part of a multi-skilled team.
• Excellent computer skills.
